James Deering built Vizcaya as a winter house, the main house was built between 1914 and 1916, but was designed to look much older, as if a family had occupied for centuries, the house contains art and furniture that were purchased in Europe and United States, also has articles tailor-made and innovative technologies of the time. The formal gardens are a mixture of French and Italian designs with plants that thrive in the subtropical climate of Vizcaya. Today it is a National Historic Landmark and an accredited museum, offers a 90-minute audio guide in several languages.

Our advice:

Vizcaya offers guided tours of the main house at no extra cost tours to visitors. The tours are conducted in English, lasting 45 minutes and covering the first floor of the Main House and certain areas of the gardens. The schedule is announced daily tours.

Tours in Spanish are on Saturdays and Sundays at 2:00 pm, but are subject to the availability of volunteer guides.

Beware of the many steps and uneven ground floors throughout the main house, gardens and other areas.

You can only take pictures in the outdoor areas of the house. If you need a parking space, please talk to a security guard on arrival.

Take time to enjoy your coffee and shop located in the historic halls of games that give the indoor-outdoor pool Vizcaya, they are accessible to visitors in wheelchairs.
